Dear friends of the Cherry Tree
It only seems like yesterday that we called last drinks at the Great Britain Hotel but here we are, nearly 12 years later, announcing the end of our lease at the Cherry Tree Hotel.
Saturday 20 December will be our official farewell event but we will also be open for business on Sunday 21 December 2025.
Although that will be the end for us, it won’t be the end of our beloved pub. Our landlord will be stepping up to the plate and he fully intends to continue trading as the Cherry Tree Hotel, but he will be closing for a short time to complete some refurbishment works.
His family have been involved in Melbourne’s pub scene since the late 80’s and they presently own and operate a number of highly-regarded pub businesses.
They are well-aware of the emotional connection that customers and local residents have for the Cherry Tree and we’re confident they won’t be bringing another slick but soulless superpub to the area but will be adding a new chapter to a pub with a long and celebrated history.
We can’t finish up without a shout out to our wonderful staff and to everyone who has supported us at Cherry over the last 12 years.
We go out with an overwhelming sense of pride for the business we created here, coupled with a profound sense of humility for how whole-heartedly that business has been embraced.
Most importantly, we go out knowing we have been part of a remarkable community of people.
